After the Texas Democrat Party called for an immediate ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war, a Republican member of the Texas House is calling for all Democrats to be removed from the chamber’s leadership.

A resolution passed by the State Democrat Executive Committee during their meeting Saturday called for an “immediate ceasefire” and encourages “all parties to cease hostilities and prioritize the protection of civilian lives.” The resolution comes nearly two months after Hamas launched a surprise attack against Israeli civilians, killing more than 1,200 people.

State Rep. Brian Harrison (R–Midlothian) says the resolution amounts to “siding with Hamas.”

“I call on Speaker Phelan to IMMEDIATELY remove any Democrat who does not disavow this resolution from leadership positions, including Chairmanships & Parliamentarians,” he wrote in a post on X.

When Texas Democrats fired back, pointing to part of their resolution that also “condemned” terrorist attacks by Hamas, Harrison doubled down.

“I understood your statement. You’re demanding a ceasefire to help Hamas. Unsurprising, given that your party elects and celebrates antisemites and Hamas sympathizers like Rep. Rashida Tlaib. Have you denounced her yet?” wrote Harrison.

On Monday, Harrison filed a resolution to remove every Democrat committee chair in the Texas House.

“Texans stand with Israel, but the Texas Democrat Party recently issued a statement making it clear they side with Hamas. Democrats should never have been appointed Chairs of many of the most powerful committees in the GOP-dominated Texas House, where they advance socialism and kill Republican priorities, and I am proud to file a House Resolution to remove every Democrat Committee Chair who refuses to publicly denounce their party’s Hamas-favoring statement,” said Harrison.

He was joined in authoring the resolution by State Reps. Nate Schatzline (R–Ft Worth), Steve Toth (R–The Woodlands), and Tony Tinderholt (R–Arlington).

Meanwhile, the Republican Party of Texas unanimously passed its own resolutions over the weekend supporting Israel and advocating for the destruction of Hamas.

“Texas Republicans unanimously passed two resolutions supporting Israel and condemning anti-Semitism on the same day Texas Democrats unanimously passed a resolution siding with Hamas,” said Republican Party of Texas Chairman Matt Rinaldi. “This is not surprising, considering Democrats elect and celebrate Hamas sympathizers like Rashida Tlaib and remain silent on the rampant anti-Semitism in their party that has reared its ugly head on college campuses and in protests across the nation. Republicans stand with Israel and our Jewish citizens.”
