Katrina Pierson, former spokesperson for Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, is preparing to take a seat in the Texas House after defeating incumbent Justin Holland in the Republican primary. A veteran of the Tea Party movement, Pierson says her campaign was driven by a desire to restore accountability and advance a bold conservative agenda.

“I came up as one of the original founders of the Tea Party movement, and some things never change,” Pierson said. “For too long, Republican politicians in Austin have drifted from their purpose—serving the people. My campaign was about advancing a bold, conservative agenda and ensuring my district’s voice is heard.”

As Pierson looks ahead to her first legislative session, she has called for a cultural shift in the Texas House, emphasizing the need for representatives to prioritize the will of the voters.

“The Texas House needs a culture of accountability and focus,” she said. “That starts with representatives prioritizing the voters over political gamesmanship. We need a reform-minded GOP that delivers results, listens to the people, and works together to advance strong conservative leadership.”

Pierson has identified several key issues she plans to address during her time in Austin, all rooted in the values of her North Texas district.

“My priorities reflect the mandate my constituents gave me: Keep Rockwall, Rockwall,” she said. “Securing the border, empowering parents, defending gun rights, protecting the unborn, phasing out property taxes, and ensuring secure elections. I’m also committed to restoring a functional, results-driven GOP caucus that delivers on its published agenda.”

While Pierson is no stranger to the political process, she says the disconnect between some representatives and their constituents remains a pressing issue.

“Nothing surprises me anymore,” Pierson said. “It’s unfortunate how disconnected some representatives seem from the people they were elected to serve. But I’ve also been inspired by the engagement and passion of Texans who care deeply about their future. That’s why I’m focused on ensuring the House works for the people again.”

When it comes to accountability, Pierson emphasized her open-door policy and commitment to communication.

“Accountability starts with communication,” she said. “I encourage my constituents to reach out to my office, share their concerns, and hold me to my promises. I have an open door policy, and I will meet with anyone in the district. By focusing on accountability and delivering results, we will rebuild the trust Texans deserve in their government.”
