Texas’ Higher Education Coordinating Board has launched a new website to seek public feedback about the state’s taxpayer-subsidized higher education institutions.
According to a THECB press release, the website gives “the public easy access to file complaints and provide feedback regarding Texas higher education institutions.”
The website, www.studentsfirst.texas.gov, includes a portal to accept “statutory complaints” regarding violations of several recently passed state laws.
The press release specifically lists Senate Bill 17 from 2023, and Senate Bill 37 from 2025. The former prohibits Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) offices and requirements. The latter overhauled several aspects of university governance.
The website will be monitored by the Coordinating Board’s Office of the Ombudsman, which was established as one component of SB 37.
While the coordinating board specially lists SB 17 and SB 37 as the inspiration for this website, the press release states that members of the public can report “any violation of state law.”
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board oversees several aspects of the state’s taxpayer-subsidized higher education institutions. Its members are appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Texas Senate. Stacy Hock, of Austin, is the current board chair.
