Kirk EnglandNot much of a surprise, everyone’s been whispering about it for weeks, but it was announced last night that State Rep. Kirk England of Grand Prairie is swapping the “R” for a “D.”

Given that he only rated a 47% on fiscal issues, first-termer England had signaled his opposition to conservative fiscal principles with nearly every vote he took.

There are only three Republicans in the Texas House who scored lower than England: Tommy Merritt of Longview (38.5%), Charlie Geren of Fort Worth (45.5%) and Delwin Jones of Lubbock (46.2%). They campaign under the banner of the fiscal conservative brand, but vote something else entirely.

This is going to be a very interesting election cycle…
