AMARILLO — Republican Jamie Haynes, a parental rights advocate, has announced her 2024 campaign for Texas House District 86.

“I am proud to announce my candidacy for state representative of District 86,” Haynes said. “We must protect our spirit, traditions, and principles while making sure that the interests of Texans are put first.”

Haynes has previously served as a Randall County Republican precinct chair and founded Texans Wake Up, an organization that seeks to “arm parents with knowledge about what is happening in public schools” and “provide support to handle those challenges.”

Additionally, Haynes stays active in local politics as a member of Grassroots America and part of the core team of Texas Ed 911. She was also the recipient of the Conservative Leader Award in 2022.

Moreover, Haynes promises to stand up against the “government overreach” in Austin by advocating to secure the border, eliminate property taxes, and protect Texas children.

“We need representatives who will fight for our Texas conservative values in Austin, and I am passionate about making sure that the issues that matter most to Texans are heard,” Haynes stated. “I pledge to always fight for the people of Texas, to listen to your concerns, and be a principled leader who prioritizes your values and interests.”

Currently, House District 86 is represented by State Rep. John Smithee (R–Amarillo), who ran uncontested in 2022 but received a rating of 49 out of 100 from Texans for Fiscal Responsibility.
