Texans for Vaccine Choice released its legislative report card Tuesday, which grades the performance of Texas lawmakers this past session based on their support for medical freedom legislation.
A lawmaker’s score is determined by their votes on measures and amendments and whether they authored any medical liberty measures.
“TFVC marked its tenth year of legislative advocacy by continuing to advance the cause of medical liberty at the state level,” Texans for Vaccine Choice Political Director Michelle Evans told Texas Scorecard.
“And the effectiveness of our efforts, from our numerous action alerts to testimony given in dozens of hearings, is reflected in the report cards released today,” she added.
A total of 32 House members, all of whom are Republicans, received ‘A’ ratings according to the report. This is a stark difference compared to 2023, when only 4 House members received ‘A’ ratings. Twelve Republican senators also received ‘A’ ratings.
“More legislators than ever have earned an A grade this session, representing the rise in importance of medical liberty in Texas,” continued Evans.
Nineteen lawmakers in the House and four in the Senate received ‘B’ ratings, a large contrast to when 15 senators received either an ‘A’ or ‘B’ rating in 2023.
Out of the lawmakers receiving either a ‘C’ or ‘D’ rating, all 31 House members were Republicans, and five out of six senators were Republican.
Unlike 2023, no Republican, either in the House or Senate, received an ‘F’ rating.
