Pro-school choice PAC School Freedom Fund has released a TV ad in House District 21 in support of David Covey, who is challenging Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan. The ad highlights Donald Trump’s endorsement of the challenger.

The School Freedom Fund (SFF), an arm of the national anti-tax organization Club for Growth (CFG), is spending hundreds of thousands in a television advertisement blitz across the state.

SFF’s latest ad highlights former President Donald Trump’s endorsement of Covey, stating, “Texas needs a new state representative, and David Covey is the America First conservative we can trust. Trump knows David Covey’s a fighter for Texas families—that’s why Covey has Trump’s complete and total endorsement.”

SFF’s advertisements are targeting multiple GOP lawmakers that voted to strip Gov. Greg Abbott’s proposed school choice program from a $7.6 billion education funding bill. The provisions were tabled after 21 Republicans, mostly in rural regions, joined Democrats in the 84-63 vote.

Recent polling has shown Phelan is trailing Covey in the three-person GOP contest that also includes businesswoman Alicia Davis.
