New campaign finance filings show Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller is lagging behind challenger Nate Sheets in fundraising as the two Republicans head toward a primary showdown in March.

The agriculture commissioner is among Texas’ statewide offices, overseeing the Texas Department of Agriculture and playing a key role in the state’s agricultural economy.

New semiannual campaign finance filings covering the period from July 1 through Dec. 31, 2025, show both candidates raising hundreds of thousands of dollars ahead of the March primary.

Miller reported $290,677 in political contributions during the reporting period and ended the year with $102,525 cash on hand. His filing also showed $405,198 in total expenditures and $45,050 in outstanding loans.

Sheets reported $506,224 in political contributions and ended the year with $373,235 cash on hand. His filing showed $1,199,202 in total expenditures and $753,000 in outstanding loans.

Miller, a longtime statewide officeholder and a close ally of President Donald Trump, has pointed to his record at the Texas Department of Agriculture, where he has served since 2015.

Sheets, a Navy veteran and businessman who built Nature Nate’s Honey into a national brand, has framed his campaign as a conservative challenge to the incumbent and has worked to build support with agricultural stakeholders across the state.

The winner of the Republican primary will face Democrat Clayton Tucker in November, who reported raising $108,389 and ending the year with just $45,131 cash on hand.
