Kyle Morris, who is challenging State Rep. David Lowe in the March Republican primary, previously posted a series of social media messages sharply critical of President Donald Trump and other Republican officials while being supportive of Barack and Michelle Obama.

Texas Scorecard reviewed the posts on Morris’ X account, which was started in 2015. Beginning in 2019, the posts took on a pointed edge, covering some of the most contentious political moments of the Trump presidency. They include Morris’ take on the impeachment proceedings, the COVID-19 response, and the 2020 election.

In late 2019, as the U.S. House advanced impeachment articles against Trump, Morris repeatedly challenged statements made by Trump and the White House.

When Trump questioned the credibility of the whistleblower complaint at the center of the impeachment, Morris wrote that the “delusion is real” and that there was “REAL EVIDENCE” supporting the investigation.

In response to Trump’s criticism of Democrat U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff, Morris said he was “amazed what ‘narcissists’ are capable of convincing themselves of” [sic].

After Trump argued that the Senate should match House Democrats’ impeachment procedures, Morris replied: “Are you a child? … Two wrongs don’t make a right.”

In October 2020, he questioned whether taxpayer dollars were being used for Trump’s travel.

Morris also criticized Trump’s withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement.

While often critical of President Trump, the posts also show Morris praising the Obamas.

When former President Obama wished the Trumps well after their COVID-19 diagnoses, Morris wrote that it was “yet another example of our former President being more presidential than our current one.”

In response to a message from Michelle Obama about empathy and kindness, Morris said her comments reflected “genuine compassion, sympathy, and empathy,” calling her the “#bestfirstlady.”

Morris’ disparagement was not exclsuive to Trump, but extended to other Republican officials:

During the confirmation hearings for Justice Amy Coney Barrett, Morris objected to Sen. Ted Cruz’s remarks, writing: “Stop campaigning already.”

In another post, he praised Mark Cuban for comments directed at Cruz, saying “calling out Ted’s bs is the tip of the iceberg.”

He questioned Republican Rep. Mike Bost after he criticized Nancy Pelosi, asking “whose pocket are you in,” and referred to one of the congressman’s arguments as part of an “Idiocracy ‘defense.’”

He also expressed frustration with America’s two-party system, stating that other Western countries provide “more successful examples” than the Republican and Democratic parties. Of course, he is now a candidate in that two-party system,

Morris did not respond to a request for comment on whether he still stands by the statements.
