Republican State Rep. Brian Harrison of Midlothian says he will file legislation to defund the Texas Medical Board if they do not terminate one of the agency’s top bureaucrats, who also works for Planned Parenthood—the country’s largest abortion provider.

On Monday, it was revealed that TMB’s medical director, Dr. Robert Bredt, has worked for Planned Parenthood of South Texas since 2011, where he oversees the operation and administration of the laboratory. Bredt joined TMB in 2012 and is currently paid $185,000 annually by taxpayers.

Following the revelation, State Rep. Briscoe Cain (R-Deer Park) sent a letter urging the TMB to terminate Bredt’s employment immediately. Cain said that employing someone who is involved in a “criminal organization” will cause the agency to lose its credibility and the public’s trust.

Harrison also sent a letter to the governor asking that his office work with TMB to “immediately remove this individual.”

Now, Harrison has said that if Bredt is not terminated, he will file legislation to “cut all funding to the Texas Medical Board.”

According to the state budget, during fiscal year 2024, the TMB received nearly $23 million. For FY 2025, the TMB will receive $21 million from the state.

“Texas needs bold leadership,” Harrison wrote on X. “I will not tolerate a literal abortionist being the top regulator of doctors and nurses in our great, pro-life state!”
