An American citizen was reportedly killed in Bastrop County by an illegal alien who was driving under the influence—and Texans are pressing the federal government for answers.

An illegal alien who was driving under the influence has been accused of crashing into three vehicles, killing 29-year-old American Grayson Davis.

Jorge Peralta, 35, fled the scene and resisted arrest after the collision. He reportedly confessed to consuming five beers before operating the motor vehicle. Peralta is being held as a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainee.

He faces charges of evading arrest, resisting arrest, and intoxication manslaughter.

Peralta has been deported twice in the past after illegally entering the country—once during the Obama administration and once under the Trump administration.

In 2021, during the Biden-Harris administration, he illegally crossed the border again.

U.S. Rep. Michael Cloud (R-27), State Rep. Stan Gerdes (R-Smithville), and U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz are now demanding that both the Biden-Harris administration and ICE answer as to how he was able to enter the country for a third time, following his two previous deportations.

“Another family’s worst nightmare has come to pass, and it’s directly because of the Biden-Harris Administration’s reckless, open-border policies,” Cloud said in a press release. “Their refusal to enforce our immigration laws has taken another innocent life. How many American citizens have to be killed by illegal immigrants before Joe Biden and Kamala Harris decide to act?”

Cruz asserted that Texans deserve answers about why Peralta was allowed to re-enter the country after multiple deportations.

He reinforced that the crime was avoidable. Yet, the Biden-Harris administration has chosen to keep the border open for “political purposes.”

Gerdes expressed similar sentiments, stating, “What happened to Grayson Davis and his grieving family was completely avoidable.”

“The failure of the Biden-Harris administration on our southern border has cost countless lives,” he continued.

Gerdes said that while Cruz and Cloud spearhead the fight at the federal level, he will file a measure called “Grayson’s Law” this upcoming legislative session. According to Gerdes, the act will address illegal alien crime at the state level.

Bill filing opens for Texas House and Senate lawmakers on November 11, 2024.
