As Texans prepare to vote in the upcoming November election, the Republican Party of Texas is again endorsing conservative candidates running in critical local races across the state.

The Texas GOP endorsed 20 candidates from four counties: Harris, Maverick, Montgomery, and Nueces.

Since 2021, the RPT has worked with county parties to help elect conservatives in nominally “nonpartisan” local elections.

In addition to city council and school board candidates, this time, the party is backing contenders for positions in county hospital and emergency services districts and even a regional water authority.

Local candidates must seek and earn their county party’s endorsement before being considered by the state party.

In Conroe, four conservative school board candidates who are running as a slate—Nicole May, Lindsay Dawson, Melissa Semmler, and Marianne Horton—picked up endorsements from both the Montgomery County Republican Party and the Texas GOP.

They hope to join three conservative “Mama Bear” trustees elected to the Conroe school board in November 2022: Melissa Dungan, Tiffany Nelson, and Misty Odenweller.

“We’re determined to improve student learning outcomes, empower parents, and support our teachers,” Dawson posted on social media, adding that the four candidates are honored to have support from the county and state parties “in such critical races.”

“We are so proud to be endorsed by the Republican Party of Texas!” Semmler posted along with the endorsement announcement.

“We are working hard to earn every vote we can, and believe wholeheartedly we can make a difference in our community,” added May.

While many elections for local offices are held in May or November of odd-numbered years, some key city and school board contests are held in conjunction with November general elections when voter turnout is highest.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 5. Early voting begins October 21.
