Texas State University has terminated the employment of a professor who called for the overthrow of the U.S. government over the weekend.

“After a thorough review was conducted of the video recordings of the statements, it became clear to me that their actions amounted to serious professional and personal misconduct,” Texas State University President Kelly Damphousse stated late Wednesday. “Conduct that advocates for inciting violence is directly contrary to the values of Texas State University. I cannot and will not tolerate such behavior.”

“As a result, I have determined that their actions are incompatible with their responsibilities as a faculty member at Texas State University,” Damphousse continued.  “Effective immediately, their employment with Texas State University has been terminated.”

Damphousse was referring to Tom Alter, who was previously an associate professor of history at Texas State.

Alter had been exposed making comments calling for the overthrow of the U.S. government.

“[W]ithout organization, how can anyone expect to overthrow the most bloodthirsty, profit-driven, mad organization in the history of the world, that of the U.S. government,” Alter asked at a recent Revolutionary Socialism Conference.

“We are by no means just a reading club,” Alter continued. “Reforms are not enough.”

Alter’s termination was condemned by the American Association of University Professors, a trade association for left-wing faculty.

“A second public university professor, this time tenured, has been fired immediately by Texas State University following political pressure,” the group’s Texas chapter wrote on social media. “This cannot continue.”

Texas State University is one of seven components of the Texas State University System, which is overseen by a board of regents that is appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Texas Senate.

Texas State is the second university this week to fire a professor over inappropriate conduct.

On Tuesday, a Texas A&M professor was terminated following public outcry over her instruction on introducing LGBT topics to minors during a children’s literature class. The professor threw a student out of the class when she objected to the content.
