Just days after Gov. Greg Abbott officially announced his campaign for an unprecedented fourth term, President Donald Trump has endorsed him for re-election.

In a lengthy Truth Social post, Trump praised Abbott as a “strong and highly respected Governor of Texas,” crediting him for defending conservative priorities and steering Texas through what he called a “BIG WIN” for Republicans.

“Thanks to Greg’s bold and effective leadership, the wonderful people of Texas will have the opportunity to elect five new MAGA Republicans in the 2026 Midterm Elections with the passage of their new, fair, and much improved, Congressional Map,” Trump wrote. “Greg Abbott has my Complete and Total Endorsement for Re-Election. He is an exceptional Governor and man — HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!”

The endorsement comes just a few days after Abbott launched his re-election campaign at a rally in Houston, where he unveiled a new property tax reform proposal aimed at reining in local governments. Abbott is seeking to become the first Texas governor to win four consecutive terms.

The endorsement follows Trump’s earlier backing of nearly every Republican incumbent in the Texas Legislature after the passage of school choice legislation earlier this year. He has also endorsed Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and House Speaker Dustin Burrows.

However, not all of Trump’s posts about Texas lawmakers were positive. In a separate message, Trump took a parting shot at outgoing former House Speaker Dade Phelan, saying, “He was the one responsible for killing every Bill having to do with Voter Integrity and School Choice. Good luck in your next life, Dade!”

Phelan, who has been critical of Trump, attempted to make light of the criticism, replying on X, “New phone, who dis?”
