Regents of the University of Texas System are attempting to revive a tenure application for a UT-Dallas professor who was arrested after attempting to obstruct law enforcement in 2024.
According to an agenda posted on the Board of Regents’ website, regents will hold a special called meeting on Friday to consider tenure appointments at UT-Dallas.
Regents had deferred consideration of these appointments at their regular meeting in mid-August following reporting by Texas Scorecard that history professor Rosemary Admiral was part of the tenure cohort.
Admiral was arrested in 2024 after she tried to block law enforcement efforts to clear a tent encampment created by pro-Hamas agitators during anti-Israel “protests” on UT-Dallas’ campus.
She and a UT-Dallas colleague spent the night in jail and were charged with misdemeanor criminal trespass. The charges were ultimately dropped.
Admiral sued UT-Dallas in 2025, alleging that they retaliated professionally by restricting her campus access after her arrest. This lawsuit is currently pending.
Friday’s meeting announcement comes as UT-Dallas and the UT system are attempting to conceal a series of records related to Admiral.
On August 10, Texas Scorecard requested Admiral’s tenure process records and her communications using the key phrase “Gaza” from UT-Dallas as well as communications about Admiral’s tenure applications from regents Kevin Eltife and Jodie Lee Jiles, Chancellor John Zerwas, and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Archie Holmes.
On August 24, the UT System replied that they would seek a ruling from the Texas attorney general in an attempt to withhold information on the tenure process request and the senior official communications request.
Also on August 24, UT-Dallas replied that fulfillment of the “Gaza” communications request would require a payment of more than $500.
UT-Dallas is a component of the University of Texas System. The UT System is overseen by a Board of Regents that is appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Texas Senate. Kevin Eltife of Tyler is the current board chair.
