Combined scores from the House and the Senate averaged 42 out of 100 points for fiscal responsibility.
Both the Republican Party of Texas and the Democrat Party of Texas oppose corporate handouts in their platforms
The new program would replace the controversial Chapter 313 program opposed by Democrat and Republican activists.
Advocates for House Bill 5 said Texas needs a replacement for the defunct Chapter 313 program to maintain an economic advantage over other states.
Only 21 Republicans voted against a measure that shells out millions to the “woke” entertainment industry.
“I can’t imagine a more blatant slap in taxpayers’ faces than this bill,” said Tim Hardin, president of Texans for Fiscal Responsibility.
Its future in the Senate, however, is much less certain.
The former state senator is pushing back against the proposed revival of the chapter 313 corporate welfare program.
“Texas taxpayers deserve better,” said Texans for Fiscal Responsibility President Tim Hardin.
“A gaming version of the Great Wolf Lodge.”
