Montgomery County is now a “gun sanctuary,” thanks to a resolution passed unanimously by the county commissioners. Montgomery County is the largest county so far to become a Second Amendment sanctuary and brings the total number of counties in Texas passing the resolution up to 11.
The resolution affirms citizens’ constitutional right to keep and bear arms and states that the county government will not participate in enforcing unconstitutional federal or state gun laws.
According to County Judge Mark Keough, who presides over the commissioners court, the resolution “declares that Montgomery County will not authorize or appropriate government funds, resources, employees, agencies, contractors, buildings, detention centers or offices for the purpose of enforcing or assisting in the enforcement of any element of such acts, laws, orders, mandates, rules or regulations that infringe on the right of the people to keep and bear arms.”
While largely symbolic, the unanimous approval of the resolution sends a strong signal that Montgomery County is a safe haven for constitutional liberties when it comes to the right to bear arms. By approving the resolution, the commissioners pushed back against local left-wing activists who are trying to push an anti-gun culture.
“Montgomery County is a very special place,” said conservative activist Eric Yollick, who spoke in favor of the resolution during the meeting. “I hope that you’ll show the nation what an exemplary place Montgomery County actually is.”
