A new television ad from Houston-area congressional candidate Kathaleen Wall is taking aim at her runoff opponent, former Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls, for turning a blind eye to sex trafficking in his own backyard.

Wall and Nehls are running for Congressional District 22, the seat being vacated by retiring Congressman Pete Olson.

A 60-second spot, airing on Houston broadcast television, highlights the brutal story of Courtney Litvak, who was pulled into sex trafficking at the age of 17.

In the ad, Courtney is joined by her parents, Alan and Kelly Litvak, who explain how Nehls had failed their family.

“When we went to sit down with Sheriff Troy Nehls for a two-hour meeting, I felt so confident that he was going to immediately sound the alarms,” Kelly explains. “But instead, Sheriff Troy Nehls has publicly blamed and shamed our family.”

“Sheriff Troy Nehls knows what’s going on in his county and has the gall to re-victimize a young lady, a mom, [and] a dad who have been through hell,” says Alan.

“That’s not serving the public, that’s harming the public,” he adds.

The ad cites news clips in which Nehls repeatedly denied sex trafficking was taking place in the area and minimized Courtney Litvak’s experience.

During a recent candidate forum, however, Nehls alluded to the ad and claimed Wall was “spreading lies.”

“Man up, Troy Nehls. If Texans can’t count on you to stand up to violent sex traffickers, how can we expect you to stand up to Nancy Pelosi and the liberals in Washington?” Wall later asked in response.

“We’ve seen how you let down innocent women like Courtney Litvak, and we’re not going to allow you to let down almost a million people as a member of Congress.”

Early voting in the Republican primary runoff election continues now through July 10. Election Day is on July 14.
