Earlier this week, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick announced his appointments to the Senate Select Committee on Property Tax Reform and Relief.

“The Select Committee on Property Tax Reform and Relief will travel the state holding public hearings and look for ways to improve the property tax process as well as reduce the burden on property owners.”

This comes shortly after Patrick released his fifth set of interim charges tasked at looking into making the property tax system more accountable, simple and transparent while also examining ways to reduce the tax burden on property owners.

The select committee appointees are as follows:

Sen. Paul Bettencourt (R-Houston) – Chair

Sen. Brandon Creighton (R-Conroe)

Sen. Kelly Hancock (R-Forth Worth)

Sen. Eddie Lucio Jr. (D-Weslaco)

Sen. Charles Perry (R-Lubbock)

Sen. Van Taylor (R-Plano)

Sen. Carlos Uresti (D-San Antonio)

Of the appointment Sen. Bettencourt said, “I look forward to working with my colleagues to build upon what we accomplished in the 84th Legislative Session and bringing meaningful tax relief to all Texans…Tax bills simply cannot continue to increase faster than Texans’ paychecks.”

The committee’s results and recommendations will be made to the Senate Finance Committee before the 85th Legislative Session.

Check back here for more information as the details of these hearings are announced. Taxpayers should make plans to attend and make their voices heard.
