In 2012, when State Rep. Giovanni Capriglione of Southlake decided to take on incumbent Vicki Truitt for the Republican nomination, he enlisted the help of political consultant Luke Macias. Six years later, Macias is apologizing for his role in helping to elect Capriglione.
During his campaign to unseat Truitt, Capriglione campaigned on conservative issues and followed through on his campaign promises during his first legislative session, earning the distinction of “Taxpayer Champion” for his A-rating on the Fiscal Responsibility Index.
That all changed when Capriglione shocked conservatives in 2015 by supporting Speaker Joe Straus over his conservative challenger Scott Turner in the race for speaker. Since then, Capriglione has taken a drastic turn downward, earning a 63 on the most recent Index.
In a video released on Macias’ Facebook page, the consultant apologizes for working to put Capriglione into office, adding, “I did not realize that he did not intend to keep his word to you or me.”

Macias explains how Capriglione has betrayed his campaign promises now that he is in Austin, the tools the representative uses to obfuscate his liberal record to the voters, and the importance of holding every elected official accountable.
Macias is now consulting for Keller City Councilman Armin Mizani’s campaign challenging Capriglione. Mizani has been endorsed by Texans for Fiscal Responsibility.
