Texas State University, located in San Marcos, is coming under fire in recent weeks for allowing a racist article to be published in the school newspaper.

The newspaper, titled The University Star, approved the publication of an article titled “Your DNA is an abomination” by student Rudy Martinez. Martinez has since been fired.

Martinez writes “I hate you (white people) because you shouldn’t exist. You are both the dominant apparatus on the planet and the void in which all other cultures, upon meeting you, die.”

The article did not get any less racist from there.

The newspaper received immediate backlash from the public, and took the piece down within a matter of hours. The editorial board has since apologized.

As a result of the debacle, Texas State has formed a review committee to further investigate the matter. Connor Clegg, student government president at Texas State, has called for the resignation of the Star’s editors, or he would “be calling for an emergency meeting of the Student Service Fee Committee to reevaluate the paper’s funding and call for a full divestment of student fees from the Star.”

Several far-left leaning groups on campus have already come to the defense of the article and its writer. One organization, the Texas State chapter of the Pan African Action Committee, both defended the article and called student government president Clegg “a threat to constitutional free speech.”

It remains to be seen if any other disciplinary action will occur. In the meantime, Texas State University and those complicit in the writing and publication of the article are bearing the brunt of the consequences from the public, and those who give them money.
