Ever the advocates for all-out-government growth no matter what, Dick Lavine of the Center for Public Policy Priorities, was quoted in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram as saying: “Either we’re going to have to shut down some of these exemptions, or we’re going to have to shut down programs for school kids, or sick children or drivers who want to get to work on time in the morning.”
The feature story was honestly headlined: “Hold on to your wallets: Legislature looking for more revenue” and went on to explain exactly what I’ve explained to listeners for months. Chiefly, that there is little will among the Speaker Joe Straus RINO crowd to actually cut the budget significantly. Instead, they simply want you to pay taxes on more things.
Claiming to be fiscal conservatives, these self-described moderates can’t even bring themselves to even significantly slow the growth of spending when facing a declining economy. Nope, they do what moderates always do: they agree with Democrats that you should pay more.
Congratulations to the Star-Telegram’s Dave Montgomery for finally explaining, in a major state newspaper, what I’ve been saying. Montgomery makes clear that the oft-discussed sales tax exemptions are only transactions you, Texas consumers, do not yet pay tax upon.
The CPPP, RINOs and Dems want you to believe they are being fair, using language that implies that some business or rich-guy is getting an exemption when what they are actually talking about is putting a larger tax burden on each and every one of you.
