After U.S. Rep. Joe Barton (R-Ennis) announced his retirement only days before the December filing deadline, the race to succeed the congressman became one of the most crowded in the state. Eleven Republican candidates threw their names in the hat to represent Congressional District 6, which consists of southeast Tarrant County including Arlington, as well as Ellis and Navarro counties to the southeast.
Despite the crowded field, conservative support in Tarrant County has solidified behind a one candidate: Ron Wright.
Wright, a former Arlington city councilman and Tax Assessor-Collector in Tarrant County, earned endorsements from conservative State Sen. Konni Burton (R-Colleyville), as well as Tarrant County Republican State Reps. Tony Tinderholt, Bill Zedler, Matt Krause, Craig Goldman, and Stephanie Klick.
In addition to these legislative endorsements, Wright’s campaign announced the endorsements of a slate of locally elected officials, including several county commissioners and mayors.
Wright has also received the support of several statewide conservative organizations, including Texans for Fiscal Responsibility and Texas Right to Life.
With 11 Republicans vying for the seat, Wright’s recent endorsements show that support among conservatives for a CD-6 candidate does not appear to be divided.
