Local attorney Curtis Parrish has won the GOP nomination for Lubbock County Judge after receiving 54 percent of the vote.
Unofficial election results show Parrish garnering 5,563 votes and his opponent, businessman Gary Boren, garnering 4,693 – a very different outcome from the results on March 6.
The two candidates entered the runoff after a three-way primary race in March failed to produce a single candidate with a majority win. Of the 21,650 votes cast in the primary election, Boren led with 47 percent of the vote. Parrish received 31 percent and the third candidate, Karen Gibson, received 22 percent.
In addition to leading the race in primary votes, Boren received noteworthy endorsements from the Texas Homeschool Coalition, Texas Eagle Forum, former U.S. Congressman Kent Hance, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller, former Republican Committeeman for Texas Tim Lambert, and many more.
This was Lubbock’s first open race for county judge in nearly two decades.
With no democratic opponent to face in November, Parrish will assume the seat left by current Judge Tom Head in January.
