Matthew Baldwin is ready for his close-up with the Ohio State Buckeyes.

The 6-foot-3, 205-pound strong-armed quarterback is expected to figure prominently in the team’s plans going forward given the almost certain NFL ascension of junior signal-caller Dwayne Haskins.

“It’s going to take a lot to [win the job],” Baldwin recently told LettermanRow.com. “The work is cut out for me. Dwayne has set the standard so high.… But I’m very confident. Coach [Ryan] Day didn’t recruit me to sit down and watch other guys. That’s just my mindset.”

Toughness has long been a key part of the Lake Travis High grad’s game. Much of his first year in the Ohio State program was spent rehabilitating a knee injury he suffered in his senior year at Lake Travis.

In high school, Baldwin was rated a four-star recruit by ESPN, throwing for more than 4,000 yards and 44 touchdowns while completed better than 70 percent of his passes.
