Willie Cherry is bringing the solid foundation he established as a quarterback and wide receiver at Rider High School in Wichita Falls to his role as a redshirted freshman wide receiver for the Ohio Bobcats.

Upon his signing with the Bobcats, the school posted an article saying “there is already a buzz surrounding the true freshman.” During practice, he reportedly made a one-handed catch, drawing the coaching staff’s attention.

“Honestly, I really don’t know what happened,” Cherry said in the article. “It was just instinct, reaction to the ball.”

This is the kind of performance you might expect from a former MVP offensive player of the year at Rider who lettered in three sports and “led his team to a 5-6 season and a playoff experience his senior year.”

For the Bobcats, Cherry played in six games in 2018, as the team posted a 9-4 record this season with 41.2 points scored per game.
