Katy High School alumnus Dane Haveman got in on the action of Texas Tech’s first two College World Series games recently.
Haveman, a junior left-handed pitcher for the Red Raiders, threw 1-1/3 innings of scoreless relief against Michigan in the opening round of the CWS on June 15 in Omaha, Nebraska. Then, in an elimination game against Arkansas on June 17, Haveman allowed one run in two-thirds of an inning in TTU’s 5-4 win.
After June 15’s action, Haveman had pitched 54-1/3 innings this season in 32 appearances. He had a 2/49 earned run average and notched 59 strikeouts against eight walks and 44 hits allowed. His record was 2-1 with three saves.
A native of Katy, Haveman was three-time letterman for Katy High School and earned first-team all-district and honorable mention All-Houston honors in 2015. He was a second-team all-district selection in 2016. In his one season at Hill College in Hillsboro, Texas, Haveman had two complete games in four starts as part of six wins and three saves in 69 innings.
