Anthony Hines, a former Plano East football star entering his second season at Texas A&M, is on the Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Award watch list, TAMU’s website reported.

Hines is a sophomore linebacker this season for the Aggies after missing last season due to injury. He had 33 tackles with a forced fumble during his freshman season in 2017, earning him All-Freshman Team honors in the Southeastern Conference. 

The list of five finalists for the trophy will be made public Dec. 5, with the trophy awarded Jan. 17 in Hawaii.

Hines earned national recognition while playing for Plano East, earning Parade and Under Armour All-American honors and being ranked No. 1 among the nation’s inside linebackers by ESPN and one of PrepStar’s top 100 recruits. As a senior he had 220 tackles with 38 tackles for loss of yards, five forced fumbles and two interceptions. He had 640 tackles in his high school career.
