Just when taxpayers thought they were safe from the anti-taxpayer ways of former State Rep. Fred Hill, he’s back. Hill used to draw $600 per month from the public treasury as a member of the Legislature working against taxpayer interests. Less than a month after leaving office, Hill is still working against taxpayer interests as a lobbyist, paid for by taxpayer dollars. The only difference? Now he is raking in six-figure fees from the public coffers.

According to data compiled by our blogging friends at the Voice of the Taxpayer, Hill is making upwards of $675,000 (paid for out of taxpayer funds) as a lobbyist.

No one begrudges the genuinely pleasant and congenial Mr. Hill making a living.

What taxpayers should be upset about is that he is paid out of tax dollars to pursue public policies that run contrary to the best interests of taxpayers — fighting against property tax relief, appraisal reform, and working for more government spending and increased taxing authority. Such efforts should be funded privately, not through tax receipts.

As Thomas Jefferson said, “To compel a man to furnish funds for the propagation of ideas he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.”

Hill’s list of “clients” include taxpayer dollars generated in, through and for:
