Texas Republicans will be heavily represented when the Republican National Committee holds its first-ever midterm convention in Dallas this week.
Ten Texas elected officials and congressional candidates are among the 109 speakers and programming items announced for the two-day Republican Convention, scheduled for September 9 and 10 at the American Airlines Center.
President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance will headline the national gathering.
Trump is scheduled to appear on both nights of the convention. Vance will deliver a keynote address on the opening night.
The Texas delegation of speakers includes Gov. Greg Abbott, Attorney General Ken Paxton, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, U.S. Reps. Monica De La Cruz and Brandon Gill, and Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson.
Three Republican congressional candidates from Texas will also receive speaking slots: Eric Flores in Congressional District 34, Tano Tijerina in Congressional District 28, and Carlos De La Cruz in Congressional District 35.
All three are running in South Texas congressional districts as Republicans seek to expand their representation in the region.
The Texas speakers will join Republican officials and candidates from across the country, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso, National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman Tim Scott, and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise.
Members of the Trump administration scheduled to participate include Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Attorney General Todd Blanche, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Mehmet Oz. Former White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and Donald Trump Jr. are also scheduled to speak.
It’s not just politicians that will be taking the stage, however.
Texas Children’s Hospital whistleblowers Vanessa Sivadge and Dr. Eithan Haim will also address the convention. The two drew national attention after coming forward about the Houston hospital’s gender mutilation procedures on minors.
The RNC says the convention will focus heavily on the issues Republicans are campaigning on ahead of November, including taxes, border security, public safety, health care, energy, and the economy.
RNC Chairman Joe Gruters said the gathering is intended to present voters with a contrast between the two parties ahead of the midterm elections.
“This election comes down to one simple choice: lower costs, lower taxes, secure borders, and common sense versus higher taxes, wide open borders, and the radical liberal agenda the Democrat Party has fully embraced,” said Gruters.
The Dallas gathering differs from the Republican Party’s traditional presidential nominating convention. No presidential nomination or other traditional convention business is taking place.
Instead, the RNC describes the two-night event as the first midterm convention in American political history, designed to highlight the Trump administration’s record and Republican candidates running in November.
