President Donald Trump is accusing U.S. Sen. John Cornyn and Republican strategist Karl Rove of undermining Attorney General Ken Paxton’s campaign for the U.S. Senate, warning that they could be responsible if Democrats win the seat in November.
In a lengthy Truth Social post, Trump blasted Cornyn and Rove for what he described as efforts to make it harder for Paxton to defeat Democrat James Talarico in the upcoming midterm election.
“Sadly, and very stupidly, John Cornyn, and his Liddle’ Buddy, Super RINO, Karl Rove, are doing everything possible to make it hard for Ken Paxton,” Trump wrote.
Trump described Paxton as the greatest attorney general in Texas history while referring to Talarico as a “Radical Left Lunatic” and the “ANTITHESIS of Texas Values.”
The president, who endorsed Paxton during the runoff election, also took aim at Cornyn’s unsuccessful primary campaign.
“John Cornyn who, after my Endorsement, lost the Primary to Ken by a very wide margin, and Karl Rove, who shouldn’t be allowed to spew his jealousy on FoxNews, should be ashamed of themselves,” Trump wrote.
He went further, suggesting the two Republicans would bear responsibility if Paxton loses the General Election.
“If Ken Paxton loses, it will be because of WEAK and INEFFECTIVE Political Hacks like John Cornyn and Karl Rove, who have ineffectively opposed me for my entire political career,” Trump wrote.
The remarks come as Republicans seek to maintain control of the Texas Senate seat in November.
Rove, a longtime Republican strategist and former advisor to President George W. Bush, has been publicly critical of Paxton’s candidacy.
Trump’s statement also included a direct appeal to Republicans who supported Cornyn during the primary.
The president called on “all of those who supported Senator John Cornyn to UNITE, and immediately switch your support to Ken Paxton.”
“He will be a Great Senator, just like he is a Great Attorney General,” Trump added.
Trump closed by warning Republicans against allowing Talarico to represent Texas in Washington, again referring to the Democrat as “James TalaFREAKO.”
The president has repeatedly targeted Talarico during recent appearances in Texas, including a rally in San Antonio last week where he used the same nickname while urging voters to support Paxton.
Neither Cornyn nor Rove responded to requests for comment from Texas Scorecard before publication.
