Democrat U.S. Rep. Colin Allred (TX-32) has voted against a resolution condemning federal Environmental Protection Agency mandates related to increased “emission standards.”

The EPA’s rule suggests raising emission standards would decrease sales of gas-fueled cars and increase sales of electric cars.

The joint resolution against the rule passed with overwhelming Republican support.

Allred is running against incumbent U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and has been criticized by the Cruz campaign for his vote.

“Colin Allred just told ranchers in West Texas, farmers in East Texas, Border Patrol agents in South Texas, and truckers in North Texas that he wants to force them to drive electric vehicles,” a Cruz campaign spokesperson told Texas Scorecard. “That should go over great. This again proves how grossly out of touch Allred is with everyday Texans.”

“If elected to the Senate, Allred would put his woke policies ahead of the very real needs of the people who live in the Lone Star State, and as we get closer to Election Day, he makes that explicitly clear,” he added.

Allred voted alongside a majority of House Democrats, while a few Texas Democrats including U.S. Reps. Henry Cuellar and Vicente Gonzalez voted with Republicans against the EPA mandates.

“Allred’s vote to keep Biden’s EV mandate isn’t just bad for consumers, it’s a disaster for Texas oil and gas workers,” the Cruz campaign wrote on X. “His loyalty lies with his DNC overlords. Not Texans.”

Just yesterday, Allred posted an endorsement from the Natural Resources Defense Council, a group that advocates against oil and gas for “climate justice.”

Cruz and Allred have agreed to a televised debate on October 15 before they face off in the November 5 General Election.
