U.S. Rep. Colin Allred, who is challening U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz for his senate seat, pushed his radical positions on border security, abortion, and the LGBT agenda during an interview.
One of the issues Allred hit first during his interview Saturday with The Bulwark’s Tim Miller at the Texas Tribune Festival was border security.
“I disagree with having an inhumane approach for the southern border,” stated Allred. “And so to me, having stunts like putting buoys in the river with razor wire around it, that’s not border security.”
As part of Operation Lone Star—Texas’ border security effort—the state installed razor wire and marine barriers to deter illegal river crossings. Gov. Greg Abbott has said that the barriers are effective.
When discussing the Senate filibuster, Allred stated that the filibuster is broken and needs to change in order to codify Roe v. Wade—thereby forcing all 50 states to allow abortions.
Referencing two women who have filed complaints against Texas hospitals alleging that the hospital refused them care for their ectopic pregnancies, Allred said that Texas’ abortion ban “is not pro-life. [It] is deeply, deeply anti-freedom.”
Texas Right to Life previously covered the story of the two women and explained that according to the law in question, ectopic pregnancies are not considered abortions.
“This means that any law restricting abortion does not apply in situations where a dangerous ectopic pregnancy exists,” wrote Ashley Leenerts with Texas Right to Life.
When asked about gun rights and the recent school shooting in Georgia, Allred replied, “We have to have laws in this country that take and keep these incredibly destructive weapons out of the hands of folks who shouldn’t have it.” He continued, “And when I’m in the United States Senate, you will have nothing to worry about.”
What we will do is make it harder for folks that shouldn’t have access to these high-powered rifles to get access to them, and that’s what I think is consistent with who we are as Texans and the Second Amendment.
Allred’s stance on gun control has long been public, with a 2018 video showing Allred suggesting that America would have been better off without the Second Amendment.
In regards to the LGBT agenda, Allred expressed his support for the Equality Act.
“There’s legislation that I voted for, co-sponsored, that we’ve not been able to get to the Senate, called the Equality Act,” he said. “The Equality Act would level the playing field in terms of extending civil rights protections that we have based on race and gender, national origin, to sexual identity and how you identify.”
The addition of gender identity as a protected class has been promoted by the left at the federal level for years. The Biden-Harris administration’s attempts to force it through into law via federal agency rules is currently the subject of multiple lawsuits—as it would violate protections for women’s private spaces by allowing gender-confused men into them.
Allred previously helped secure $1 million in funding for a Dallas non-profit, called BigThought, which promotes LGBT and radical gender ideology.
