Texas Congressman Chip Roy has called on the speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives to oppose any measure aimed at forcing women to register for selective service.
In a letter sent to House Speaker Mike Johnson, U.S. Rep. Roy (R-21) wrote that forcing young women to register for the selective service insults American values and will destroy the family unit.
Roy was joined by U.S. Rep. Mary Miller from Illinois in spearheading the call to action.
“Under no circumstances should the House of Representatives greenlight a future that cripples the American family by sending mothers and daughters to the frontlines,” reads the letter. “A country that pursues radical social ideology over basic principles will not remain a strong, resilient nation.”
The letter follows the passing of the Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025. The executive summary of the NDAA notes that the Military Selective Service Act will be amended to force women to register for selective service.
“This is yet another blatant attempt to advance a divisive agenda that seeks to eliminate all distinctions between males and females,” the letter continues.
The letter called on Speaker Johnson to blast any attempt to throw women onto the frontlines of combat.
Other Texas legislators who joined Roy in sending the letter were U.S. Rep. Michael Cloud (R-27), U.S. Rep. Brian Babin (R-36), and U.S. Rep. Keith Self (R-3).
“Under NO circumstances should we be drafting our daughters into combat,” Cloud posted on X. “I joined @RepChipRoy and @RepMaryMiller in a letter demanding that Republican leadership remove this from the National Defense Authorization Act.”
