Republican U.S. Representatives Ronny Jackson and August Pfluger of Texas have introduced legislation to prohibit the Biden administration from implementing the “Remain In Texas” policy.

The two lawmakers are leading the Texas delegation in the U.S. House to effectively prohibit the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandra Mayorkas from enforcing the proposed policy, which would have forced illegal aliens to remain in Texas or other border states while awaiting asylum screenings. The measure also states that no federal funds can be used towards the program.

Other Texas representatives co-sponsored the bill, including Jake Ellzey, Brian Babin, Pat Fallon, Morgan Luttrell, Dan Crenshaw, Randy Weber, Beth Van Duyne, Jodey Arrington, Lance Gooden, Troy Nehls, Keith Self, Pete Sessions, Michael Burgess, Michael McCaul, Roger Williams, Nathaniel Moran, Kay Granger, Tony Gonzales, Chip Roy, Michael Cloud, John Carter, Monica De La Cruz, Wesley Hunt.

Jackson says Texas shouldn’t have to pay for the effects of liberal border policies.

“Since taking office, Biden has welcomed over 3.8 million illegal immigrants into the United States, with at least 169 from the terrorist watchlist, that we know of, and millions more ‘gotaways,’ and we have no idea who they are or where they are,” explained Jackson. “Texas should not have to bear the burden of liberal border policies that hurt Americans and destroy our way of life. I will not stand for the hypocrisy of liberal politicians who advocated for sanctuary cities and now want to force illegal immigrants to stay in Texas. They now want someone else to deal with the consequences of their radical agenda and will do anything as long as it doesn’t impose real border solutions. Enough is enough! This stops now.”

Pfluger added to Jackson’s sentiments, saying the policy “must remain in the trash can.”

Texans will not stand for any Remain-in-Texas plan from the Biden Administration to force our state to bear the brunt of the President’s self-made border crisis. Liberal sanctuary cities like New York that openly obstruct federal immigration laws and have policies in place to shield criminals from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) should not be immune to the crisis at our border. Biden’s Remain-in-Texas policy must remain in the trash can.

In September, Texas Scorecard reported on the Biden administration’s plan to force illegal aliens to remain in Texas—and other border states—by tracking their location through GPS monitoring devices, like ankle bracelets, while they undergo asylum screening.

The next month, U.S. officials announced that the plan had been shelved, due to disagreements with the city of El Paso.
