A group of lawmakers from Texas are co-sponsoring the Farmer Assistant and Revenue Mitigation Act of 2024, also known as the FARM Act.

The FARM Act seeks to provide temporary immediate assistance to farmers while the Farm Bill is still being debated in Congress. Republican U.S. Rep. Trent Kelly of Mississippi authored the bipartisan bill and states that the act will help keep farmers in business.

Kelly explains that the FARM Act would bridge a gap in providing relief for farmers who have been hit by inflation and natural disasters and are unable to obtain financing to run their operations.

“Our nation’s farmers have been plagued by issues including crippling inflation due to the failures of the Harris-Biden Administration and natural disasters,” U.S. Rep. Troy Nehls (R-12), one of the lawmakers co-sponsoring the bill, told Texas Scorecard.

I am a proud cosponsor of the FARM Act of 2024, which would provide much-needed assistance to farmers across the country when their revenue falls below the cost of production due to circumstances beyond their control.

The measure seeks to assist farmers growing a wide range of crops for U.S. consumption. The farmers would be paid on a per acre basis with a detailed formula clearly laid out in the bill for calculating the payment that will be transferred to farmers by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

U.S. Reps. Vicente Gonzalez, Jake Ellzey, Tony Gonzales, Henry Cuellar, Michael McCaul, Monica De La Cruz, Pat Fallon, Pete Sessions, Ronny Jackson, John Carter, August Pfluger, Brian Babin, Randy Weber, Lance Gooden, Marc Veasey, and Nathaniel Moran are also co-sponsoring the FARM Act alongside Nehls.
