For a second time this year, an IDEA Public Schools administrator is accused of sex crimes involving a student.

Shonterrich Jeremaine Johnson, 29, was arrested and charged with improper relationship between educator and student, a second-degree felony, and online solicitation of a minor, a third-degree felony.

Johnson worked as an assistant principal of instruction at the IDEA Parmer Park charter school in Austin, which serves about 1,300 K-12 students.

Students at the school reported Johnson’s behavior.

According to a report by KXAN, students showed school staff sexually explicit text messages sent by Johnson to a male former student. The school’s principal then called police.

Austin Police Department officers went to the school on September 11 and obtained copies of the text messages.

The messages allegedly included a graphic sexual conversation and a discussion about Johnson meeting the former student for sex and giving him money.

Johnson was arrested on September 15 and booked into the Travis County Jail. He was released on bonds totaling $40,000—$20,000 for each charge.

IDEA indicated that Johnson is no longer employed by the school.

In a statement, officials said the school was “aware of an arrest made off campus involving a former staff member for allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a former student.”

School officials stated they are taking “appropriate actions in accordance with the law and network policy” and are working with law enforcement as the investigation continues. Further questions were directed to Austin Police.

“IDEA is committed to prioritizing the safety and well-being of staff and students,” the statement added.

State records show Johnson has never been issued a Texas educator certificate.

He is among hundreds of Texas educators accused of sex crimes involving students and other children over the past few years in school districts across the state—including IDEA Public Schools.

In March, Aaron Freeman, an assistant principal at IDEA Round Rock Tech, was arrested for indecency with a child by sexual contact after he was accused of inappropriately touching a female student. Freeman does not hold a Texas educator certificate. He was placed on the Do Not Hire Registry in May.

In 2023, Alexander Hill, a 4th-grade substitute teacher at IDEA Health Professions in Austin, was also charged with indecency with a child by sexual contact. Three female students said he touched them inappropriately. Hill had been previously reported for an incident at a different IDEA school. He is not certified to teach in Texas.

Also in 2023, IDEA Mission teacher Karen Sosa was charged with having an “improper” sexual relationship with a male student. She permanently surrendered her teaching certificate in April 2025 in lieu of disciplinary proceedings.

Thousands of educator sexual misconduct complaints have been reported to the Texas Education Agency.
