A now-former Central Texas teacher is accused of recording a teen girl in an off-campus bathroom.

Pedro DeLuna III was arrested and charged with invasive visual recording, a state jail felony. The alleged crime occurred on November 7.

DeLuna was an assistant band director and music teacher in Harper Independent School District, located west of Fredericksburg.

According to a statement from Harper ISD Superintendent Bonnie Stewart, the victim is a 15-year-old female, and the recording took place off campus and outside of school hours.

Stewart referred to DeLuna as a “former staff member.”

“At this time, there is no evidence to suggest that any inappropriate conduct occurred on school grounds, within the school, or involving any current students during school hours,” stated Stewart. “We want to reassure our community that the safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority, and we are taking this matter very seriously.”

Anyone with knowledge of inappropriate conduct by DeLuna is asked to contact the Harper ISD Police Department or the Gillespie County Sheriff’s Office.

DeLuna was arrested and booked into the Gillespie County Jail on December 1. He was released the next day on a $50,000 bond.

State records indicate that DeLuna does not hold a Texas teaching certificate. He is not currently listed as under investigation on the state’s Do Not Hire Registry of people ineligible to be employed by a public school.

Harper ISD is a three-school district with about 600 students and 90 staff members.

In just the past few years, hundreds of Texas school employees in districts across the state have been accused of sex crimes involving students and other children. Thousands of educator sexual misconduct complaints have been reported to the Texas Education Agency.
