An Edna teacher and coach is facing felony charges of sexual misconduct with a student. The suspect is the school district superintendent’s son.
Logan Allen O’Connor, 28, was arrested Monday and charged with online solicitation of a minor, improper relationship between educator and student, and sexual performance of a child.
O’Connor was a high school coach and elementary school teacher in Edna Independent School District southwest of Houston.
After his arrest, he was allowed to resign.
His father is Edna ISD Superintendent Robert O’Connor.
His mother, Lori O’Connor, is a teacher at Edna Elementary School.
O’Connor graduated in 2015 from Edna High School, where he played varsity football, and has reportedly worked in the district since 2020.
State records show he was certified in 2021 to teach physical education. His certification is under review by the Texas Education Agency.
O’Connor was booked into the Jackson County Jail on September 16 and released on bonds totaling $200,000.
Following O’Connor’s arrest, Edna ISD issued a statement acknowledging law enforcement had notified the district on September 10 of “alleged actions involving an employee and a student.”
The employee was immediately placed on administrative leave pending law enforcement’s investigation.
Since September 10th, Edna ISD has cooperated with local law enforcement and has reported this matter to the Texas Education Agency (TEA). As of today (9/16/24), the employee was arrested and has been charged.
As always, student safety is our primary concern and will be acted on swiftly. While we understand the community is sensitive to this issue, Federal privacy laws prohibit us from releasing additional details about this situation.
The district’s statement did not name O’Connor and discouraged “gossip and speculations” as being “detrimental to the individuals involved and disruptive to the educational process.”
The statement was updated to add that Edna ISD trustees had “acted to accept the employee’s resignation.”
O’Connor is among dozens of Texas teachers and school employees charged each year with sex crimes involving students.
