A College Station elementary school custodian arrested last month for sharing child sexual abuse material via Snapchat is now also charged with sexually abusing the young girl shown in the online videos.

Gerardo Antonio Gonzalez, 22, was arrested on September 23 and charged with two counts of possession with intent to promote child pornography.

Gonzalez has since been charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14.

He is also charged with possessing a controlled substance.

Gonzalez is being held in the Brazos County Jail, with total bonds for all four charges set at $415,000.

The Brazos County Sheriff’s Office began investigating Gonzalez based on a tip from Snapchat that was sent to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

According to KBTX, an arrest affidavit alleged that Gonzalez used Snapchat to share more than a dozen files containing child sexual abuse material involving a preteen girl.

Investigators said the videos appeared to be self-produced by Gonzalez, leading to the added sexual abuse charge.

Gonzalez worked at Greens Prairie Elementary School in the College Station Independent School District from February 2025 until his arrest in September 2026.

College Station ISD officials said they immediately fired Gonzalez and conducted an internal review that found no connection between the alleged crimes and any students or the school.

“These measures are being taken as an additional precaution to help ensure the safety of our students and staff,” the district stated. “No findings related to the allegations have been cited within the district at this time.”

We understand that this news is unsettling, and we are committed to transparently addressing this situation. Our highest priority is the safety of our students, and we will continue to take all necessary steps to protect them. If the allegations prove true, we encourage the criminal justice system to take every appropriate action.

Gonzalez is listed in the state’s Do Not Hire Registry as “under investigation.”

Hundreds of Texas school employees, including custodians, have been accused of sex crimes involving students and other children.

In March, Gilmer Intermediate School custodian Shamon Natavion Patton was charged with invasive visual recording after his cellphone was found taking video in a boys’ bathroom on campus. Also in March, police arrested Luis Escamilla, a custodian at LBJ High School in United ISD, on a felony charge of improper relationship between educator and a student.

In 2025, Allen ISD contract custodian Jason Giuliani was arrested for online solicitation of a minor, Little Elm ISD elementary school custodian Eric Landaverde was charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14, Austin ISD custodian Agustin Lopez was arrested on a charge of indecency with a child, and Bullard ISD janitor Bryan Taylor was jailed for unlawful restraint and attempted sexual performance by a child.

The Texas Education Agency is currently investigating more than 3,000 educator sexual misconduct complaints and opening an average of 258 new cases each month.
