In a major effort to crack down on violent crime, the FBI’s Houston Field Office has released its first-ever “Houston’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives” list.
The list, announced Tuesday, highlighted 10 suspects accused of heinous crimes, including murder, armed robbery, and gang violence.
Within just hours of the list’s unveiling, one fugitive was already behind bars. Gerrode Terrel Smith, wanted on federal bank robbery charges, was captured thanks to a tip.
The operation is part of the bureau’s national “Summer Heat” crime initiative.
FBI Special Agent in Charge Doug Williams described the fugitives as “armed and dangerous,” and urged the public to come forward with information.
Each fugitive is featured with mugshots and details of their alleged crimes. Among them is Christian Xavier “Gucci” Rucker, wanted for murder in aid of racketeering.
The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.
The fugitives come from diverse criminal backgrounds. Some are wanted for gang-related murders, others for aggravated robberies and firearm offenses. Agencies involved in the effort include the FBI, Houston Police Department, Harris County Sheriff’s Office, and Texas Department of Public Safety.
Tips can be submitted anonymously through 1-800-CALL-FBI or tips.fbi.gov, with cash rewards offered for verified leads.
The FBI confirmed that the list will be updated as arrests are made, adding new fugitives as needed. Officials say the public’s role is vital to stopping violent crime before more lives are lost.
