A high school volleyball coach was jailed after she allegedly engaged in sexual misconduct with a female student athlete while working for Randolph Independent School District.

BreAnn Reese Halcumb, 34, was arrested June 1 and charged with improper relationship between educator and student, a second-degree felony punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison.

Halcumb was the head volleyball coach at Randolph High School, located at Randolph Air Force Base northeast of San Antonio.

According to a June 2 statement from the district, administrators became aware of allegations “involving possible non-school-related contact” between Halcumb and an RHS student athlete during the 2025-26 school year and “immediately” reported the matter to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.

The statement indicated Halcumb had “previously tendered her resignation and is no longer employed by Randolph Field ISD.”

“The safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority,” the district statement added.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office stated that deputies initiated an investigation on May 28, after a school administrator reported misconduct allegations received from the student’s parents.

Investigators learned that Halcumb and the student were spending time together outside of school hours, including at school events, and exchanging “intimate” messages.

According to BCSO, Halcumb’s messages “appeared to prepare the student for potential questioning and asked the student not to speak about their relationship with anyone.”

An arrest warrant obtained by KSAT revealed that school staff had discovered more than 160 messages between Halcumb and the student sent between February and April. The last message, sent in April, included Halcumb’s personal phone number.

The student’s father reportedly told school administrators that Halcumb had offered his daughter a ride home after a school sporting event, then drove to a park where she kissed and fondled the girl.

The father said his daughter told him Halcumb kissed and fondled her again while at the girl’s house.

According to the warrant, the girl’s parents called Halcumb in May. The coach reportedly told them she knew the sexual contact was wrong but blamed the student, claiming the girl “tried to kiss her first.”

The girl told investigators she was 18 but still a student when the physical contact happened.

In Texas, the age of consent for sex is 17, but any sexual contact between a K-12 educator and a student is a felony regardless of the student’s age.

Halcumb was arrested in Panola County on a felony warrant out of Bexar County.

She was transferred and booked into the Bexar County Jail on June 2 and released the same day on a $35,000 bond.

Halcumb has held a Texas teaching certificate for physical education since 2020. Her certification is under review by the Texas Education Agency, and she is listed in the TEA’s Do Not Hire Registry as “under investigation.”

In the past few years, hundreds of Texas school employees have been accused of sex crimes involving students and minors, and thousands have been reported to the TEA for sexual misconduct.

The TEA’s Educator Misconduct Reporting Dashboard shows that the agency is currently investigating more than 2,000 sexual misconduct complaints and opening an average of 250 new cases each month. The agency’s new Student Protection Resource Center consolidates all the transparency tools on a single site.
