Although many officers worked without pay, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement continued to arrest illegal aliens in Southeast Texas during the 43-day Democrat-led federal government shutdown.
Reports from ICE Houston show that over 3,500 illegal aliens were arrested during the shutdown, many of whom have been charged with, or convicted of, serious crimes.
Among those arrested are murderers, sex offenders, child predators, gang members, and individuals convicted of aggravated assault.
Over 350 of the aliens arrested had a previous conviction for driving while intoxicated.
“Our entire team understands how critical ICE’s mission is to public safety and national security, and despite many of them going without pay, they continued to show up every day and give everything they had to protect this community from dangerous criminal illegal alien gang members, child predators, murderers and rapists,” said ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Houston Field Office Director Bret Bradford.
Bradford said that ICE’s efforts resulted in the arrests of 51 child predators and 10 wanted fugitives who will now face justice for their alleged offenses. Thousands of other illegal aliens, who will now be deported, have also been removed from local communities in Southeast Texas.
One of the individuals arrested was Brayan Josue Pineda-Ayala, an illegal alien and MS-13 gang member from Honduras who was released into the U.S. by the Biden administration in 2024. Ayala has been accused of committing a triple homicide in Dallas.
Earlier this month, ICE Houston apprehended another illegal alien, Marlon Odir Gomez Hernandez, who is a suspected MS-13 gang member.
ICE reported that some arrested during the shutdown have already been deported or are in prison with an ICE detainer lodged against them.
