UPDATED September 2 with a comment from the district.
Two unnamed Killeen Independent School District employees accused of “inappropriate conversations and unprofessional conduct” involving students are on administrative leave while officials investigate the allegations.
Aycock Middle School Principal Savannah Jimenez emailed families on August 28.
“The district was notified of allegations regarding inappropriate conversations and unprofessional conduct involving students,” wrote Jimenez. “This action was taken out of an abundance of caution and is consistent with district protocols while an investigation is underway.”
“Although we are unable to share additional details due to employee privacy laws, please be assured that student safety and campus integrity remain our highest priority,” she added.
Jimenez said the school would provide an update on the investigation “as soon as we are able” and encouraged families to contact campus administration at 254-336-3300 with concerns.
District spokeswoman Karen Randolph told Texas Scorecard that administrative leave “is a standard, non-disciplinary step and should not be interpreted as a finding of wrongdoing. It helps maintain a stable environment while we gather facts and conduct a thorough, impartial review.”
At least three other Killeen ISD teachers have been accused of misconduct with students in the past two years.
Earlier this year, parents accused Meadows Elementary PE teacher Travis Reaves of inappropriate conduct with female students as young as four years old. Investigations determined Coach Reaves did nothing requiring his removal from working with children.
Reaves still works for Killeen ISD but was moved this year to Harker Heights Elementary. His teaching certificate, which he has held since 2013, shows Reaves remains under review by the Texas Education Agency.
In January, another Killeen ISD teacher resigned over alleged inappropriate conduct involving a student. Eastern Hills Middle School Principal Jacqulyn Bridges did not disclose the teacher’s name or details of the misconduct but said Killeen ISD’s Police Department was investigating.
Killeen ISD PD advised Scorecard today that the investigation remains open and has been referred to the Bell County District Attorney’s office. The teacher’s certificate indicates she is under review by the TEA.
In 2023, Fowler Elementary School teacher Klay Camp was arrested and charged with online solicitation of a minor. In July 2024, Camp’s teaching certificate was revoked, and he was added to the Do Not Hire Registry.
Hundreds of Texas teachers have been accused of sex crimes involving students and other children in just the past few years.
Thousands of educator sexual misconduct complaints have been reported to the TEA since the agency began keeping organized records in 2021.
