The Alamo is a sacred shrine, made so by the blood of brave men who gave their lives for the cause of liberty. Texans believe the Alamo must be protected and preserved.
In the midst of a $450 million plan to renovate the Alamo battlefield and construct an Alamo museum, liberals on the San Antonio City Council appear hell bent on obstructing improvements while diminishing or destroying symbols honoring the Alamo’s defenders.
The Alamo belongs to all Texans, not just to the citizens of San Antonio or their representatives on the San Antonio City Council. While many Texans have differing perspectives on the proper way to protect and preserve the Alamo battlefield, they should all agree ultimate control over those decisions should be made by the entire State of Texas, not liberal bureaucrats in one city. City governments exist and operate at the pleasure of the State of Texas, not the other way around.
The Texas Legislature must pass legislation seizing control and authority over the entire Alamo battlefield, including existing structures and surrounding areas. With statewide control, oversight, and accountability of the Alamo, we can ensure that appropriate restoration work is done to the site and investments made while protecting historic symbols and preserving proper dignity and reverence for the heroes of the Alamo.
