THE WOODLANDS—Local LGBT group “The Woodlands Pride” hosted a “Popsicles with Pride” event to collect “inclusive” books for the Montgomery County Public Library System during a BRAVE Books Story Hour.
BRAVE Books, headquartered in Texas, publishes faith-based children’s books promoting traditional American values.
During Saturday’s reading at The Woodlands South Regional Library, BRAVE Books CEO Trent Talbot read The Island of Free Ice Cream to a crowd of parents and children. The Island of Free Ice Cream teaches children about the dangers of socialism.
State Rep. Steve Toth (R–The Woodlands) also read to the children from a new BRAVE book entitled The Test of Lionhood, which teaches the true meaning of masculinity.
Meanwhile, “Popsicles with Pride” was held across the street from the library in a local park. Local LGBT activists collected “inclusive” children’s books to donate to the county libraries.
Images from the event show books like Bodies are Cool, which depicts hair growth during puberty, a “transgender” man with double mastectomy scars, different “transitioned” adults, and claims that you can define your own body. It also promotes gender confusion to preschool-aged children.
“The Woodlands Pride is clearly out of touch with the values of TX Parents,” said Toth. “Values should be established and nurtured by parents and not librarians.”
“At BRAVE Books, we know how important it is to instill virtuous principles in our children at a young age,” Talbot told Texas Scorecard. “We can’t let the next generation be exposed to inappropriate materials in their classrooms and at libraries, so have decided to push back. We want this next generation to grow up with wholesome materials that parents can trust and that kids love.”
Last month, BRAVE Books hosted a nationwide “See You at the Library” day where parents and children could enjoy a family-friendly story hour.
Although the American Library Association—which elected a self-proclaimed Marxist as the association’s president—attempted to sabotage the event, they were ultimately unsuccessful.
As parents across the state have fought to rid school libraries and the children’s sections in public libraries of explicit materials, The Woodlands Pride has advocated against measures to protect children.
Talbot is encouraging conservatives to get involved in the fight:
We hope that Christian conservatives see what we are doing and wake up to the reality that if we don’t fight for these institutions like our libraries and public education, they will be lost in short order, and once they are gone, they will be near impossible to win back.
A new state law keeping sexually explicit, vulgar, and educationally unsuitable materials out of school libraries is being challenged by booksellers but was recently allowed to take effect by the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
