We blogged this plan a few weeks ago, but thankfully it is now being reconsidered. Instead of spending $6.7 million to build a new visitors center that is to include a walk of fame and theater, the Lubbock City Council is now considering moving an existing building to the site.

The structure that may be used is called the Tara West building and began as a farmhouse in 1940. May Tom Martin has asked city staff to review this possibility. Even with the moving costs, this alternative plan would surely save millions of taxpayer dollars on a project that, unlike fire and police protection, is hardly an essential local government function.

By the way, here is our previous post on this from April 5: https://www.empowertexans.com/node/513
