A Pearland High School theater teacher is on leave over alleged inappropriate behavior with a student.

Police are investigating the allegations.

“The Pearland Police Department is aware of the recent allegations involving a teacher at Pearland High School,” the department stated in a news release. “We are currently conducting an investigation to determine whether a criminal offense has occurred. At this stage of the investigation, no charges have been filed.”

Pearland Independent School District families were not notified about the allegations.

According to a Pearland ISD statement, the information was withheld to “maintain the integrity” of the ongoing investigation.

“The campus principal did meet with Theatre booster parents in person to share the news of the employee being placed on administrative leave,” the district stated.

“Please be assured that the safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our top priority,” the statement added.

Neither the police nor the district named the teacher, but the PHS Theater Director’s name has been removed from the school’s website.

However, his teaching certificate is not under review by the Texas Education Agency.

Online records show Simpson has worked for Pearland ISD since 2024 and previously taught in Klein ISD from 2021 through 2023.

Over the past few years, a growing number of Texas school employees have been accused of sexual misconduct with students, and thousands have been reported to the TEA.
