A Texas private school teacher’s aide and youth leader is facing first-degree felony charges for allegedly sexually assaulting a young child.
Brian Rodriguez of Luling was arrested and charged with three child sex crimes:
- Aggravated sexual assault of a child, a first-degree felony;
- Continuous sexual abuse of a child younger than 14 years of age, also a first-degree felony; and
- Display of harmful material to a child, a Class A misdemeanor.
First-degree felonies are punishable by 5 to 99 years or life in prison.
The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office announced Rodriguez’s arrest on Friday.
“With the assistance of the Texas Rangers, Caldwell County Detectives flew to Las Vegas, NV and extradited Brian Rodriguez of Luling back to Caldwell County, TX for several child sexual offenses,” according to the statement released on January 9.
Detective Marie Reinarz with the CCSO Criminal Investigations Division confirmed to Texas Scorecard that Rodriguez worked for a private school.
The case remains active. Anyone with information regarding Rodriguez is asked to contact Detective Reinarz at 512-359-4514 or [email protected]. Parents are also urged to speak to their children if they were acquainted with Rodriguez.
“The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to protecting the citizens of Caldwell County, TX and holding criminals accountable,” the statement concluded.
State records show two teaching certificates issued to educational aides named Brian Rodriguez. Both are expired, and it’s not clear if either belong to the suspect.
Over the past few years, a growing number of Texas school employees have been accused of sex crimes involving students and other children, and thousands have been reported to the Texas Education Agency for sexual misconduct.
