In what we hope might be the most appropriate election night party imaginable, El Paso Republican Pat Haggerty is having his at the “Titanic Ballroom.” No, I’m not making this up. Brandi Grissom of the El Paso Times noted this little bit of irony up on her blog this afternoon.

State Rep. Haggerty has sure done his best to sink conservatives over the years. He was one of the worst voting records for Republicans in the Texas House, consistently siding with liberals in their efforts to puncture right-thinking policy initiatives.

Pat Haggerty was one of the mutinous Republicans responsible for scuttling welfare reforms, and he even voted to make the elderly walk the plank by levying a granny tax on nursing homes. Heck, he even tried to let liberals spending like drunken sailors on shore leave.

He’s spent so much time trying to drown taxpayers’ wallets and toss the Texas economy into the brink, he deserves a Titanic-sized defeat at the polls.
